What is a "tiling up-stand strip" when fitting a shower tray?

A tiling up-stand strip is a T shaped joint that hooks over the tiling up-stand.

It is used to eliminate the need to rebate a tray into a solid wall or when there is a void behind a stud partition wall.

The T shape hooks behind the plasterboard and tiling up-stand.  Sealant holds the three pieces together, therefore, making a secure connection.
