How does a temporary authorisation affect my account balance?

A temporary authorisation happens when a merchant tests to confirm that your card account is valid and/or has sufficient funds.

The funds on your available balance are put on hold, but they are still shown on your account balance. This means that the funds haven't left your account yet.

Even though a temporary-authorisation is not an actual charge, it will reduce the available balance on your payment card.

It is only when our website authorises the payment that it becomes an actual charge, meaning the funds will be deducted from your account at this point. If our website declines the payment then the funds will show as an available balance again. Temporary authorisations or holds can remain on your account for up to 10 working days due to banking processes and is beyond the control of Taps UK.
